The exhaust valve, seat and spring for the rear cylinder seem misplaced toward the lower region of the cylinder. This placement would be normal for a 2 stroke but the valve style is wrong uhh somehow.

Alan, I think you're right. Upon disassembley we might find a hole in the rear piston. I'm leaning towards the wrong choice of motor oil.

I think your carb adjustment screw is loose, caussing a "lean" condition!
