Duane, that reminds me, I've still need to send you back that core to have the baffles installed. My fault, I've been lagging.

Thanks',J.D.

BRYAN:

MUFFLER INSIGHT
YOUR SUPER-10 SHOULD HAVE A CIGAR SHAPED MUFFLER AND HAVE A REMOVEABLE TAPERED CORE. THE CORE HAS BAFFLES WHICH DO NOT HAVE HOLES SO:
IF YOU CAN SEE END TO END THROUGH THE CORE, IT IS RUSTED OUT OR HAS BEEN "HOLED THROUGH" ON PURPOSE, SOMETIMES DONE IN THE PAST IN LIEU OF CLEANING THE MUFFLER WHICH GETS LOADED WITH EXHAUST RESIDUE IN THESE 2 CYCLE BIKES.

THE CORE MAY BE REMOVED IF IT IS NOT TOO RUSTED. HOLD THE MUFFLER VERTICAL, EXIT END DOWN AND STRIKE THE END ON A WOOD BLOCK REPEATEDLY. IF THE EXIT END MOVES INTO THE MUFFLER SHELL BUT ENTRY END DOES NOT MOVE, THE CORE IS RUSTED OUT AND COLLAPSING. IF THE ENTIRE CORE MOVES, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PULL IT OUT FROM THE ENTRY END WITH VISE GRIPS, MUSCLE AND PROFANITY. I THINK YOU WILL FIND THE HOUSING (SHELL) WILL BE LOADED WITH EXHAUST RESIDUE WHICH REQUIRES CLEANING WITH PATIENCE, PAINT THINNER, SOAP AND WATER, SHAKING, TIME AND PRAYING TO THE GOD (OR GODS) OF YOUR CHOICE. GOOD LUCK.

DUANE TAYLOR, (ANCIENT ONE)

ADDENDUM:
THESE MUFFLERS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE CLEANED EVERY 500 MILES.
IF YOU WEIGH A CLEAN,NEW ONE AND A FEW, USED, OLD ONES IT SUGGESTS THAT IT RARELY HAPPENED.

Should you be able to see through a 1960 super 10 muffler?
Should you be able to see light through the baffle plates in the muffler?
How is the best to clean the muffler?
Any insight would be great.

Thanks Bryan
