Josh,
You are on the right track. Here is another alternative for a cheap modern production battery which will fit inside the reproduction battery cases sold by our vendors. I use a 6N6-3B-1 battery. They are rated at 6.0 amps and perform well in the lightweights. I have 4 of them in use right now, all doing well. If the bike is wired correctly, the horn is always "hot" even with the switch off. if the horn beeps, you have enough juice to start the bike.
Your problem is probably fuel, check to see if you get fuel running down the outside of the carb when you push the tickler down, that will tell you if the petcock is flowing and that the float bowl is full.
that's it, kick it and ride.

Just got a 53 hummer and the battery was dead. I looked at the restore section and bought the battery that was suggested which was a 6v 4.5amp battery. I hooked it up and now my lights turn on and stay on but the bike wont start. I am doing something wrong? could it be a carb issue? or should I get the 9amp battery and hope it will make a difference. I know these bikes have a generator and im thinking the 4.5amp battery is to weak.

Any suggestions? before I take it to a shop..
