I have a 1960 Super 10 that is near finished. I've had a local shop complete the motor rebuild, but one thing that I am running into is a sticky kick start. Doesn't return and binds pretty bad at times. The spring I used was the correct part number but the person that rebuilt the motor thinks the original spring was thinner. ??? The new replacement spring was catching on the edged of the starter gear pretty badly... chewed the spring up but thankfully the gear is fine. Are there different starter springs used? From what I can tell there is only one starter spring part number. |
All I can figure is that maybe the replacement spring was wound too tight during reassembly causing it to catch on the starter gear. Any ideas or comments?
