THank you for your response, I see your name answering
many questions with good advise. The engine is clean
inside, it has always been indoors and has been kicked
over many times and oil in the cylinder during it's
storage years. The engine turned over with ease, but I
wasn't getting spark so I started investigating the
magneto and coil. removed and cleaned the points, which
had very little mileage. After that is when I couldn't
get the kicker to move. When in gear, I can't roll
forward however I can roll backwards and hear the piston
moving up and down. I had this bike since the late 60s
when my cousin parked it.

JAY;

A 55 YEAR OLD ENGINE THAT HAS NOT BEEN RUNNING FOR 25
YEARS--BEST REMOVE THE CYLINDER HEAD AND SEE IF THERE IS
CYLINDER RUST THAT IS PREVENTING A FULL TURN CYCLE.
IN ANY EVENT, I WOULD VIEW THIS 55 YO ENGINE AS ONE THAT
NEEDS A COMPLETE REBUILD. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR WORK BUT
CAN REFER YOU TO THOSE THAT DO ENGINES.

Does anyone have any ideas. Working on a 63 175cc scat. I
have owned since early 70s bike hasn't run for 25 years.
kicker would rotate engine with ease I removed points to
clean, after that the kicker will not turn the engine. I
removed clutch plates thinking they may be stuck but even
without plates front primary gear will not move. I am
hesitant to go farther into the engine since I seem to be
causing more harm than good. Jay
