59ST/AND ALL LATER SPEEDOMETERS INCLUDING THE BOBCAT/TOPPER USED THE AC SPEEDOMETER. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS A CHANGE IN THE DIAL NUMBERS FROM AN UNREALISTIC 0-60 TO A FANTASY 0-8O SPEED RANGE AND
ELIMINATING THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON LETTERING ON THE DIAL BOTTOM. THE INTERNALS DID NOT CHANGE ( EXCEPT FOR THE HAIR SPRING) . AC SPEEDOMETERS USED ODOMETER/TRIP ODOMETER ROLL SETS WITH NUMBERS PUT ON WITH DECALS WHICH GRADUALLY BECAME BRITTLE AND TENDED TO FLAKE OFF. ( SORT OF LIKE SOME POLITICIANS) THE SAME AC SPEEDOMETER WAS USED FOR SOME HD MODELS (XL--ETC. ) WITH THE MINOR DIFFERENCE OF DIALS AND TRIP ODO RESET MECHANISMS.
DIGRESSING SLIGHTLY, THE 48-58 MODELS ALL USED THE STEWART WARNER SPEEDOMETER WITH 2 DIFFERENT INTERNALS (563 AND 565) AND DIFFERENT DIALS AND POINTERS FOR CHANGE IN MODEL YEARS. THE ODOMETER ROLLER NUMBERS
WERE PRINTED ON SO THEY LASTED LONGER AND WOULD GRADUALLY FADE RATHER THAN FLAKING OFF LIKE DECALS DO.
I HAVE ALL THESE IN RESTORED CONDITION ON THE SPEEDO BENCH RIGHT NOW BUT DO NOT KNOW HOW TO POST PICTURES OF THEM. IT IS HARD TO TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS
