Looking for an engine

Postby Emerica1975 » Fri Oct 29, 2021 12:19 pm

I’m new to this sight so I apologize in advance if I’m putting this question in the wrong place. I am putting a 1953 ( I think st165 ) bike together but need to find an engine. I can rebuild it myself but am hoping someone could help me find one to purchase. I live in Montana so I’m sure shipping we’ll be spendy but hopefully it won’t break the bank. Thanks!!

Finding an engine with a Title can be problematic. H-D titled them according to the engine number. I had a long standing problem getting a title for a 1962 Scat until a friend told me about the 'Vermont registration angle'. It seems you can get a valid registration in Vermont for older low cc. bikes through the mail (Google it). They run the number through the NCIC(?) data base and, if it hasn't been reported stolen, they will issue you a title-able registration after you pay their sales tax and fees. This registration is still valid for titling purposes in some states. I did this recently and PA. accepted it with no problem. I don't know how it is in Montana.
Just sayin'.
