I had the same problem. I made a puller specifically for removing the sprocket. Fortunate enough to have a lathe in the shop. The parts are silver brazed(soldered) together. It worked great.
You're welcome to borrow it. if you want. I hope I won't be needing it again on my project.

My mistake... Won't work with a flanged sprocket.
