125s Generator Help

Postby Brooks » Fri Aug 17, 2018 5:24 pm

Bike runs and runs great until the battery gets low. Polarized the generator, brushes are fine but it just will not charge the battery for some reason. Where should I be looking?

start by testing the field coils. They should draw 2.0 amps. You need only the 6 volt battery 3 pieces of wire and a ampmeter to do the test. If the field coils test good, you'll need to pull the armature and take it to a old starter shop or electric motor repair shop in your area and have them test it for shorts, opens, grounds.

Thanks will do those tests! When I took the motor apart. I made a diagram of the brushes and what they went to. I’m pretty sure I connected them to the right places but we are talking almost 6 months ago. Any chance you or anyone knows which brush goes to what? (4 brush generator obviously)

Thanks mutt! I guess it was wired wrong when I took it apart, because I made a diagram before disassembling it and put it back.
