I've got a few more questions for you guy's .On reading every thing I 've found so far and looking at the rolling chassis I thought I had it narrowed it down to a 1958 hummer . But now I'm not so sure. To start as I posted before the top fork tree is marked Hummer but there is a sheet metal Tela- Glide marked cover that looks to be factory painted to match the fenders It also has a 1951 style speedo there are no brackets on the frame for a horn or tool box but it has a coil on the front down tube.
Something else I noticed was that the headlight switch doesn't look like any I've seen It has the normal bracket but looks to have a plastic red and white tear drop nob It appears to work normally . Has anyone seen something like this ?

I will endeavor to learn more !!

Someone just added the fork tin and the older speedometer some time during it;s life. The 55-57 B model Hummers didn't have an external coil under the tank, no horn bracket or tool box bracket. Did ya find the letter and number on the left side of teh neck, just above where the vertical frame tube goes into the neck forging???

seems very few people, even those that have been working on these bikes for many years now, don't know.
I went out to the barn and got some pics. Here is a 1955 Hummer (B model) chassis that I will use for instance

DSC03008.JPG

This is where the date code is located on all the frames, 1952 - 1966 (no date codes before 1952)

Here is the frame date code up close. 5 E

DSC03008.JPG

The 5 stands for the year 1955 and the E stands for the month of May. So this frame was manufactured in May 1955. Frames with this date code will be used on later 55 models and perhaps some early 56 B models, since the new year (1956) models would already be fully assembled bikes and start going to teh Dealers in late August / September of 1955

I'm having trouble posting pictures . But will keep trying. The # on the frame is 4745-55 and below is L and a 8 .
The plastic nob must be a add on part .I looked closer and it slides over the nob and has a set screw.
I truly appreciate your help Mutt without people like you and the other members us newbies would be lost
I 'll keep trying to get the pictures up.
P/S I'm Thinking L/8 means December 1958 ?

That's December 1958 manufacture, definately had a 1959 B model motor in that frame when it left the factory.
