If you hold a screw driver next to the rotor and it pulls it in like John Wayne chasing the bad guys then it's probably okay. If it's more like Pee Wee Herman then Mutt's your choice. He's probably the only one left out there that does this.

CHECK for voltage at the coil. sometimes its the smallest thing.

One problem I had was that I accidentally grounded the points at the connection. Check to be sure your connector is only touching the points, not grounding against the inner case.
