125 setting the points

Hi guys im trying to set the points on a 125, i have the gap set but the marks are not there to set the advance. is the procedure the same for 125 as it is for the 165?

Yes, all generator models are the same. Best and easiest to use a dial indicator if the motor is still out of the frame. Basically impossible set correctly once the motor is in the frame. I use a dial indicator and a ohm meter

ok thanks, this is all new to me. the engine is in the bike. how important is the battery when it comes to running this bike?

it will run until the battery is dead. Will last a while before needing to be recharged if ya don't run anything but the brake light. Have ya tested the generator armature and field coils ?

so i got the points dialed in and got it running but know it spit the plug. is there heads available for the 125 or am i best to heli coil it?
