As was mentioned, there are 3 similar carburetor bodies used for different applications.
The float bowl covers are interchangeable.
These carburetors have been touched by many over the past (up to) 73 years.
The stamping on the cover may not match the metering jet size or i.d. of the carburetor body, less bushing.
Additionally, these carburetors were in use by other folks as well as Harley-Davidson and may not be stamped at all.
I have an L&L I found in Hawaii which is not stamped S-* or H-D.
IAC, I am positive you will get this sorted out and the bike on the road soon.
